Tufted Wool Stair Runner

This material is a broadloom tufted wool. It was cut a fabricated to go on the stairs as the designer requested. Because of the construction, sewing was not necessary. It was bound on all sides with a cotton binding tape. As with all of our installations, we used a very dense fiber commercial cushion. This cushion gives some padding, but helps keep the carpet tight and will help it maintain its appearance for many years. Special thanks to Roxy Key for trusting us with this project.

Capped Stair Installation

Capped stairs have become very popular over the years. They are a cost effective way to dress up a boring staircase. However they do create a unique problem for installers. As you can see in this photo, the nose of the cap sticks out past the nose of the stair tread. If this is not addressed, the cap edge will show.

To hide the edge, I have run my tackless out to the end of the cap. This will force your carpet to go out to the end of the cap and hide the edge.

When you install the cushion, be sure that the tackless and the cushion are close to being flush with each other, if they are not, you may end up with a weird bump or drop off in the carpet where they meet. I will usually hit the tackless on the end to bend it over to conform to the curve of the tread.
This is a "Bullnose" or "Cowboy" stair install. It will work with a "Waterfall" install as well.

Commercial Carpet Tile Install

I have done some large commercial installations, but never any this large. We are removing existing broadloom and installing 2X2 carpet tile. This area also gets a border and some custom features around the exterior of the room.

Stone Back Splash from "The Tile Shop"

This back splash is a product that the Tile Shop sells. It is very thick and easy to work with. Inside miters have to be carefully planned and cut. The area above the stove is a honed Travertine in a Versai pattern.

This was an extensive amount of runner to install. There was at least half of a day of planning. The runner came in two huge roles that were too large to handle without a 2 wheel cart. Thee was 150 LF in all.

This is an installation of a pre-hemmed runner on a curved set of stairs.

Drum Steps Without Staples

These steps can be very tricky. Luckily these don't have spindles to contend with.
As the photos show relief cuts are very important. The profile of the sides must be very smooth.
Your seam cut must line up with no roughness or unevenness. After we have made a very nice seam line, the step will be turned inside out to sew. Some installers choose to sew the step from the top.

The seam was very easily hidden by the texture of this carpet. Most carpets can be done with the same success.

This is a multi Frame Wilton that I had to sew a border onto. Because of the construction of the material, sewing was the necessary means of attaching the border. A very firm cushion must be used when stretching these types of products onto stairs.

We have been working on this project for a few months. The home is the shape of a football. we used many sizes of Tile to create some interesting patterns. The designers at Sunderlund Bros. did an excellent job with color.

Diamond Joe Casino Axminster Double Glue Install

These are pictures from an Axminster double glue installation I was involved in a few years ago. It was by far the largest installation I have done, there were 12 installers over 4 months completing the install. We had many different personalities and approaches to how the product should be installed, as you can see with Mike installing the cushion.

Stair Runners

Stair Runner fabrication and installation is my first love. This is a pre made runner that I have modified to fit down a hall and over the first step. It then travels down, giving an appearance as one piece. Thanks to Judy Romans at Word of Mouth interiors for providing quality products for us to install.

Thank you for visiting our new Blog Spot. We have been working very hard the last few months on many exciting projects in Central Iowa. Hard surfaces have been overtaking Carpet in our industry and the same holds true for Shoning Floors as we have been installing alot of Porceline Tile and Hard woods.
